On Thursday, a 16-year-old gunman entered Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, resulting in a shooting that left four people dead, including three children. According to police reports released on Friday, a teacher intervened by throwing her cellphone at the attacker and physically tackling him to prevent further violence.

Following the struggle between the teacher and the gunman, an armed father who had followed the shooter into the building fired at the teenager, killing him. Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz described the teacher’s actions as "heroic" and confirmed that she did not sustain injuries during the incident.
