Texas Athletic Director Chris Del Conte addressed the team's use of an AI-driven platform during a critical moment in last week’s game against Florida, which resulted in a failed play. The clarification comes as fans and analysts have questioned the role of emerging technology in coaching decisions during live game action.

While the specific nature of the AI platform and the exact play in question were not detailed in the initial report, the acknowledgment confirms that the Texas football program is experimenting with AI-assisted decision-making tools. The use of such technology in collegiate athletics remains a subject of debate, particularly regarding how much influence algorithms should have on play-calling compared to traditional coaching staff expertise. Del Conte’s statement appears aimed at managing the narrative surrounding the loss and the perceived reliance on automated systems during high-pressure scenarios. As of now, the program has not released further technical specifications regarding the platform or whether its use will continue in future games.
