Federal authorities in New York have announced criminal charges against three men following an incident involving the death of a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the victim was allegedly raped after being administered a dose of fentanyl that rendered her unconscious and ultimately caused her death.

Prosecutors allege that the incident also involved a second student, who survived a near-fatal overdose after consuming the same synthetic opiate. The charges center on the distribution of a controlled substance resulting in death and serious bodily injury, as well as conspiracy to distribute fentanyl. Moises Freire, 19, faces specific charges related to the distribution of a deadly drug with the intent to commit rape. Brian Peralta Cabrera, 18, is also among those named in the federal indictment. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the full extent of the conspiracy and the roles played by each of the accused individuals.
