A two-storey residential building in the Plaka district of Athens was destroyed by an explosion on Friday, leading to a major emergency response. According to Greek fire brigade officials, the incident resulted in at least two fatalities and left four individuals missing. Three additional people sustained injuries during the blast, which occurred in a high-traffic tourist area located near significant historical landmarks, including the Acropolis and the Temple of Zeus.

The force of the explosion caused extensive damage beyond the immediate structure. Debris, including rubble and shattered glass, was scattered up to three blocks away from the site. The blast also damaged several nearby residences, commercial shops, and parked vehicles. Emergency services were deployed to the scene immediately following the collapse to conduct search and rescue operations for those still unaccounted for. As of Saturday, authorities were continuing to clear the area and investigate the cause of the explosion.
