The United States has formally classified Palestine Action, an activist group known for direct-action protests, as a terrorist organization. This designation triggers a series of sanctions against the group, which has gained international attention for its tactics aimed at disrupting companies and facilities associated with the Israeli military supply chain.

In response to the announcement, Palestine Action co-founder Huda Ammori issued a statement to Al Jazeera rejecting the classification. Ammori characterized the US government's decision as ironic, using the phrase “that’s rich” to describe the administration’s stance. The group maintains that its actions are a form of political protest against complicity in conflict, rather than acts of terror.

The designation marks a significant escalation in how the US government is addressing domestic and international activist groups that employ disruptive tactics. While the US government frames the move as a necessary security measure to prevent illegal activity and protect critical infrastructure, the group views the label as an attempt to suppress political dissent and criminalize their advocacy efforts. There is currently a clear divide between the government’s security-focused justification for the sanctions and the group’s assertion that the label is a politically motivated tool used to silence opposition.
