US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated on Monday that Iranian airlines will effectively be grounded from global operations within two days. In an interview with CNBC, Bessent indicated that the administration’s latest sanctions package is designed to make it impossible for these carriers to function internationally.

According to Bessent, the new measures prohibit service providers from offering essential support to Iranian aircraft. Specifically, he noted that if an Iranian airline lands at a foreign airport, ground crews and service providers will be barred from providing fuel or landing services. This policy is intended to isolate the Iranian aviation sector as the Trump administration continues to exert economic pressure on the Iranian government.

The announcement comes as regional tensions remain high, with the current conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran approaching its seven-month mark.
