The Uttar Pradesh government has officially initiated a comprehensive development plan for the twin cities of Mathura and Vrindavan, aiming to replicate the large-scale infrastructure and tourism-focused makeover recently completed in Ayodhya. The project carries a total budget of Rs 1,051 crore, intended to modernize facilities and improve the experience for pilgrims and tourists visiting the region.

According to official reports, the implementation is divided into two primary phases. The first phase, which has already been inaugurated, consists of 62 completed projects valued at Rs 540 crore. The second phase is currently in the early stages, with foundation stones laid for an additional 167 projects. While the government frames these investments as essential for regional growth and heritage preservation, the specific nature of these 229 total projects remains broad, encompassing infrastructure, sanitation, and site beautification efforts.
