Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp has officially introduced a bill payment service for its users in India. This new feature enables customers to settle recurring expenses, including electricity and gas utility bills, as well as top up their FASTag accounts for electronic toll collection, without leaving the application.

The service is currently being released in a phased manner. According to the company, the feature will be accessible to all users on both Android and iOS operating systems within the next few weeks. This integration is part of a broader push by WhatsApp to expand its utility beyond simple messaging and into the digital payments ecosystem, leveraging the existing Unified Payments Interface (UPI) infrastructure that is widely used across India.

While the announcement highlights the convenience of managing multiple utility payments in one place, the company has not yet provided a specific day-by-day rollout schedule for different regions. Users are encouraged to check their app settings or payment menus for the update as it becomes available. This move places WhatsApp in direct competition with other established digital payment platforms and banking apps that already offer similar integrated utility payment services to Indian consumers.
