The World Health Organization (WHO) announced the end of the Ebola outbreak in Uganda after the country successfully went 42 days without recording a new case of the virus. This duration represents two full incubation cycles of the disease, which is the standard threshold used by international health authorities to determine that an outbreak has been contained.

Ugandan health authorities and international partners implemented containment measures, including contact tracing and public health monitoring, to halt the spread of the virus. The declaration marks a significant milestone for the region, as the outbreak had previously raised concerns about potential cross-border transmission.

While the situation in Uganda has stabilized, the WHO cautioned that the threat of Ebola remains present in the broader region. Specifically, the organization highlighted that cases are currently increasing in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The WHO continues to monitor the situation in the DRC to prevent further regional spread. The disparity in the status of the two countries underscores the ongoing challenges of managing infectious disease outbreaks in Central and East Africa, where porous borders and regional instability often complicate public health efforts.
